What is the role of ultrasound in breast screening?
At Breast Associates you may be asked to have an ultrasound either prior to, or at the time of your visit as ultrasound can add additional useful information in some circumstances. Your doctor would be happy to discuss this in more detail with you at your appointment. Please see the link below to the National Screening Unit position statement in the use of ultrasound as a breast cancer screening tool.

- Breast cancer risks
- Family history of breast cancer
- Suspected breast cancer

What types of tests will I have?
If you have not already had one, a mammogram and possibly an ultrasound will be organised for you On your first visit, you will be examined by a breast specialist. A breast biopsy procedure or a fine needle aspiration may need to be performed, however all of these tests will be explained in detail by your specialist.
Who will perform the tests?
Our breast care team now includes four surgeons, three breast physicians. You may request a specific surgeon or physician to perform the test or we will match you to the most suitable doctor or physican to perform the required testing. Sometimes these tests will be performed by the specialists at Ascot Radiology under imaging guidance.
What will happen if a problem is detected?
Your case will then be discussed by our team of specialists including surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, medical and radiation oncologists, breast physicians and breast care nurses. An individually tailored treatment plan will then be discussed with you and your family, your questions answered and additional support will be arranged.
